Das Kloster, das nicht zuletzt wegen des dort im Jahre 1660 abgeschlossenen Friedens zwischen Schweden, Brandenburg und Polen Bedeutung erlangte, wurde im Jahre 1931 aufgehoben, und seine Kirche wurde zur katholischen Pfarrkirche. Das Kloster Oliva (polnisch Opactwo Cystersów w Oliwie) ist ein Kloster des Zisterzienserordens, das in der ehemals eigenständigen Stadt Oliva (seit 1926 Stadtteil von Danzig, heute Gdańsk) bestand von 1185/1186 bis zu seiner Säkularisation 1831 und wurde 1945 durch das Kloster Szczyrzyc wiederbesiedelt.
Die Kirche zu Oliva wurde damit zur Kathedrale erhoben und Oliva wurde Verwaltungssitz der Diözese und Bischofssitz. 1976 erhielt die Kirche durch Papst Paul VI. den Titel einer Basilica minor verliehen. Ausstattung. Im Innenraum befinden sich 23 meist hoch- und spätbarocke Altäre.
